Fall isn’t here quite yet, but football season is already underway! As the mother of three boys– who not only love to play football, but love to watch it too– getting ready to watch our favorite college team play is always a big event! And eating wings and watching football just go together, so we are grilling up some delicious sweet and spicy garlic sriracha BBQ wingettes!
And we can’t have a big game day without lots of great food! So when I want to grill up some great game day food, I turn to the brands I know and trust at my local Walmart:
- Kingsford® Charcoal
- RITZ® Crackers
- Dr Pepper®
- Hidden Valley® Ranch
- Glad® Press’n Seal
Find these great products and more grill-gating inspiration here.
When you think of game day and food, tailgating comes to mind, right?! But what if you aren’t actually going to the game? There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t “tailgate” in your own backyard and grill-gate the same great foods at home.
Time to Grill-Gate:
Let’s start the grill! It takes a little bit of time and attention to get the charcoal going, but the wonderful taste that you get from the low and slow charcoal grilling is going to be perfect for these game day wings!
- Layer your Kingsford® Charcoal on the charcoal rack. I like to use a double layer because it helps to cook a little quicker and really get a good intense heat.
- Use lighter fluid and soak the charcoal. (If you’re like me, you may need a lot!) Use a long handle lighter so that you keep your hand away because the fire may flame up.
- Once the charcoal has started to burn, you will need to let it smolder for a bit– probably at least 20 minutes until the charcoal starts to look gray on the edges.
- Now you are ready to cook! Put the grill rack on top and add your wingettes.
- Look at the beautiful color and grill marks– this is going to be tasty!!
Sweet & Spicy Garlic Sriracha BBQ Wingettes
Ingredients List:
- 1/2 stick butter
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 Tbsp sriracha sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp ground mustard
- 2 Tbsp Dr Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Hidden Valley Ranch
- Add minced garlic to butter in bowl and put in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, or until melted.
- Put all ingredients in a large bowl and whisk until thoroughly mixed.
- Toss grilled chicken wingettes in sauce.
- Serve and Enjoy!
The Dr Pepper adds the perfect amount of sweet to this spicy BBQ sauce for our game day wings! But to make the appetizer spread complete, I always like to have a veggie tray with tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden… which, of course, goes great with the RITZ crackers and Hidden Valley Ranch…
And if you happen to have leftovers (but I don’t think you will!), you can use Glad Press’n Seal to help you store your food with spill-proof cling!
