Spring is in the air… and baseball season is here! What better way to kick off baseball season than with a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY?! Of course, the main attraction for us was the Baseball Hall of Fame, but this quaint little town has a lot more to offer… here are a few tips to help you when planning your trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
Our middle son turned 10 years old this year. And it just so happened that his birthday fell over Spring Break. So he had asked if we could go to the Baseball Hall of Fame for his birthday. Well, you gotta do something special to celebrating reaching double-digits, right? So, we planned our Spring Break around his birthday wish… and it was a great, family friendly vacation!
Baseball Hall of Fame
Visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame was our main attraction– and reason for the visit! And just to see how happy my son was in every single picture was worth it!
The boys sat in a section of seats from Progressive Field, which is home to our Cleveland Indians! So it was kind of fun to see that little piece of history at the Baseball Hall of Fame commemorating the longest running record of game sell outs.
Hall of Fame Gallery
Of course it was fun to just browse through all of the memorabilia, but kids were given a fact finding sheet to fill out as we went through the exhibits. It was fun for the kids to hunt for the specific answers, but if they filled it out, they also got to turn it in at the end for a pack of baseball cards– which is a fun (and free) souvenir!
Ticket prices were very reasonable, but a good money-saving tip for you is that **Veterans get to take advantage of a half-price ticket and children 6 and under get in for FREE!
Hotel Accommodations: Railroad Inn
Cooperstown, NY, is a charming little town. Just being there gives you the small-town-America feeling; it just feels like the perfect spot to celebrate America’s iconic pastime of baseball.
You won’t find any huge chain hotels here, but are met with bed-and-breakfasts, and small, quaint hotels.
We stayed at the Railroad Inn, which is a recently-renovated, old train station. This historic building, originally built in 1890 has a nostalgic charm and character from the outside, but is a state-of-the-art boutique hotel on the inside. The room we stayed in had a loft, which the kids absolutely loved! The rooms were very clean and furnished with what I would call modern farmhouse décor. It was very spacious, comfortable, and felt like being at home…
We did a walk-through of our room on Facebook LIVE, so you can click right here to check that out!
And a few pictures to give you a feel for the room…
New York Pizzeria
When we got in to town, we were a bit hungry, so we decided to check out the local scene. We didn’t get very far from our hotel and found New York Pizzeria. Since we were visiting New York, we definitely wanted to get some authentic New York style pizza!
This pizza place didn’t disappoint either… yum!
And Derek even lost his 2nd baby tooth at the restaurant while we were waiting for our pizza, which makes him the only one to have lost a tooth in a different state! That’s a pretty special accomplishment for a 3rd child… they never get to be the “first” to do anything!
Fly Creek Cider Mill
Our last stop was at the Fly Creek Cider Mill, just a few miles away from Cooperstown in the neighboring town of Fly Creek. Since we were here in March, we definitely missed peak season, which, of course, would be in the summer and fall. However, the mill was recently renovated and now is open year-round. The mill is family owned and operated, and offers a huge array of their own Fly Creek Cider Mill brand foods… from homemade apple pies, apple salsa, and apple frost wine, to their family’s own recipe for molasses cookies! You can taste samples of several items throughout the store on your visit there as well.
And there are lots of interactive and informational exhibits throughout the store and property that your kids will enjoy!
You can even learn about (and watch) how the cider is actually made:
We even got a little behind-the-scenes tour of the warehouse for online orders (and you are definitely going to want to check out their online store).
And here are a few of the discount codes you can use (**for new and established accounts, one-time use per account):
FREE SHIPPING on your online purchase of $25 or more, use PROMO CODE 329
$10 OFF your online order of $50 or more, use PROMO CODE 293
FREE SHIPPING on your online purchase of $25 or more, use PROMO CODE 113

So they pretty much have EVERYTHING apple (and lots of other stuff too), but you will definitely want to try their own in-house apple wine…
Our visit to Cooperstown was over Spring Break, so just a bit early in the season for all the attractions to be fully up-and-running. To check out all that there is to see and do, visit This is Cooperstown when planning your next trip!
